182 Greatest Copywriters and Copywriting Resources of the Internet Age

Here is my list of the best copywriters and copywriting resources. If you’re an aspiring copywriter, these are the people you should be following, learning and swiping from

1. They are specialized copywriters…

There are many marketers who are great copywriters, the list of marketers who can write good copy would be an absolutely huge list (and this list is big enough as it is). So I’ve narrowed it down to those who, for the most part, specialize in copy and conversion optimization. Perhaps they are for hire as a copywriter, have a blog about copywriting, have a newsletter about copywriting, have written a book about copywriting, have a specific course about copywriting, etc. They either write copy for a living or they teach it

2. These are modern day copywriters…

The list of great copywriters over the last 100 years would also make for a very big list. So the people on this list are modern day copywriters. Most are still alive but not all of them but their impact on the copywriting world was recent. I’ve decided to list copywriters making an impact since the year 2000 onwards (although many have been making an impact long before the year 2000 as well). I guess you could say this is a list of the best copywriters of the internet era.

Please don’t come at me with “What about Schwartz, Caples and Hopkins?!” Those guys were great, the pioneers of copy but they aren’t on this list. I’ll probably make a separate list of the old school copywriters in the future

3. They have taught me something useful…

This is my personal list. No special panel or committee decided these names, it’s my opinion. The only qualification is that they have impressed me and I have learned something from them  that I think was of value. I have been lucky enough to interview many of these great copywriters so I’ve learned from many of them one on one. I’ve also studied their books, blogs, courses and studied/swiped their copy and I find them worthy of being on the list

I know I will be missing people out. It’s not personal, it just means I somehow didn’t hear of them or I didn’t get a chance to study any of their work yet.

Also a lot of great copywriters don’t tout themselves as teachers but just stay quietly hidden, writing copy and the rest of the world don’t know about them. These best kept secrets may be great copywriters but I can’t list them if I don’t know who they are.

Gary Halbert Bond Halbert Kevin HalbertThe Halbert Family – Made up of Gary Halbert, Bond Halbert & Kevin Halbert

Gary Halbert is arguably the greatest copywriter of the modern era, many of the copywriters on this list, credit the success of their careers to the guidance and mentoring given by this man. I think if a poll was conducted as to who the best copywriter of all time was, he may just win such a poll.

Gary passed away in 2007 but his legacy lives on. His website thegaryhalbertletter.com is still maintained by his sons Bond and Kevin, who have kept the family business going and are both A-class copywriters in their own right.

Joe is considered to be one of the all time greats of copywriting. These guys don’t position themselves as “copywriters” but I couldn’t not include them on this list…

These people also absolutely rock at copywriting. The reason they aren’t on the above list is because I don’t see them as quote on quote “copywriters”. They don’t position themselves that way. The majority of their work stretches far beyond copywriting into a whole range of marketing and business strategies, of which copywriting is a small part. This means I can’t pin point to a course, book or website where you can find out about their copywriting resources, quite so easily.

However, this list felt a little wrong without including these guys because they sure as heck can write copy…

So to remedy that, my best marketers list is already in the works and you’ll find these guys featured more prominently on there…

Jay AbrahamJay Abraham

Best known for his strategy of preeminence, his many books and courses, etc. Jay is a master of marketing. Copywriting is of course a part of that.

Best known for his Mass Control course which took the IM world by storm in 2007. Frank’s persuasion, influence and marketing techniques certainly apply to copy but good luck trying to hire him to write you a sales letter.

Kevin certainly hasn’t positioned himself as a copywriter but he is as good as anyone. He helps coaches to get paid what they are really worth. Over the last few months I’ve found myself glued to his updates and I think so has the rest our community. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a long form sales letter of his, he keeps it short and to the point, and when it comes to building up desire for his services, there’s no one better right now.

Perry Marshall Perry Marshall

Perry is known for his work with Google Adwords as well many other aspects of marketing. He is the creator of many products including Adwords Copywriting Express, Autoresponder Bootcamp & his Look Over the Shoulder Email Writing course

Todd BrownTodd Brown

Todd is the go to guy for sales funnel optimization. Of course, a funnel is the ultimate conversion process, it’s a multi-step piece of copy in a way, and so direct response copywriting plays a huge role, every step of the way. He also covers the automated/technical side of the funnel sequence too, how to get the very best out of Infusionsoft etc. If you don’t read his blog and you’re not on his email list, you’re doing yourself a disservice.

Together, Joe & Dean are the hosts of one of the Internets most popular marketing podcasts – I Love Marketing

They have interviewed top copywriters, conversion & marketing experts such as Jay Abraham, Jon Benson, Frank Kern, Eben Pagan, Brendon Burchard, Ryan Deiss, Dan Kennedy, Bill Glazer, Perry Marshall, Andy Jenkins and many more.

They are both great copywriters in their own right. The extent of their material does extend far beyond copyrighting and even beyond marketing into wider business topics too.

Eben Pagan is one of my favorite teachers of business and marketing strategies. He is a master copywriter and you can see this in his own marketing. When he has a promotion going down, I’m reading and studying every word.
