How to record screen capture videos for free

A quick, simple way to do screen capture videos without having to paying for expensive softwareScreen capture videos

Have you ever seen those cool little videos where people can show you what they are doing on their computer screens? Videos like this are called “Screen capture videos” and depending on what you do, they can be very useful in your business.

It’s a great way to give a presentation or demonstration from your computer and then use it as content

Creating this kind of a video is something anyone can do. There are options which are free but basic. There are options which have a price but are still great value in my opinion because of all the amazing things you can do with it. Here I’m going to give you four options for creating screen capture videos…

Free options

1. Jing – Is a very basic screen capture tool by Techsmith but it’s free so you can’t really complain. It does have a few limitations the main one being that it can only record a maximum of 5 minutes which may not be enough for your presentation, however if all you need to do is create a simple, couple of minutes long video then Jing will do the job.

2. CamStudio – Is an open source software which has many more capabilities and less limitations than Jing. This is closest thing you will get to an advanced screen capture software for free. If you want to save money but still create quite decent screen capture videos then this could be the option for you.

Advanced options (but not free)

3. Camtasia – This is my weapon of choice as I mostly use PC and Camtasia was originally created for PC use. This is an advanced tool which includes full editing options and will publish your videos into the file type of your choice. You can really make professional standard videos with this software, it’s well worth the couple of hundred pounds investment in my opinion.

4. ScreenFlow – If you are a Mac user who needs an advanced solution then this is the way to go. It has all the capabilities that you would need and at the time of writing this article, its a bargain for just $99.
